Week 2: Digital Text & Visual Design
Activity: Checklist & Digital Document
Part 1: Update Digital Media Checklist. In week 1 you created a Digital Media Checklist to help guide your identification and development of digital content. Your digital media checklist is a ‘living’ document, meaning you will need to continue evaluating and updating or editing the checklist based on future learning and new ideas. After completing this week's content you should go back to your Digital Media Checklist, review it and update your checklist with new ideas from this week. Then, you can complete Part II of this week’s assignment, creating a digital document.
Part II: Digital Document. In creating documents to use within your courses, visual design works together with content to convey a certain message and achieve a certain goal with your students. For Part II, you are a graphic designer tasked with creating a content document for a classroom. The document should support a specific learning objective or to fill a learning gap. For example, you might want to create an infographic on a specific topic or you might create a handout for your class. The document type and content is up to you, you will need to have at least 2 images or graphics. Remember that designing a document is more than just making something that looks good. It is also about understanding your audience and visual design.

Be sure to consider:
-
What is the purpose of the document?
-
What are the needs of the audience (students)?
-
What colors should you use and avoid?
-
How to integrate images and graphics effectively?
-
Visual Design idea from this week’s lecture: and Contrast, Repetition, Alignment and Proximity.
After you create your document be sure to include a Creative Commons license to your work (you choose which licenses works for you). After you finish, be sure to go back and check it to your work to the Visual Design principles and apply your own updated Digital Checklist.
Submit your digital text document and describe your ideas for meeting visual design, the learning objective and your digital checklist to the Week 2 Discussion forum.
